A few weeks ago the owner of my local coffeeshop showed me this remarkeble Audio System. I’ve thought about building my own mp3 computersystem with touchscreen and everything but than this came along. Unlike my girlfriend and much to her pleasure I still don’t have my PADI diving license. Despite that I wear a 500m waterproof diving watch. Why…? Well 1. I like my watches to be 100% waterproof since I almost never take them off. 2. They are often more resilient and durable (don’t think I have to explain my preference for that). 3. The diving ring is very useful as a timer for cooking…really!

While looking for ways to upgrade my Maglite I came across the Borealis 1050. It still has the (outside) body of a maglite but inside it’s a heavily tuned lighting machine.

Unlike other rechargeable police flashlights, the Borealis works on a 12-volt system of high current NiMH batteries, which are needed to handle the almost three and a half amps demanded from the bulb. To cope with the increased heat, the switch has been highly modified and has an aluminum bay with a ceramic bi-pin bulb holder. The special high-walled parabolic aluminum reflector and the Pyrex lens finish the high-temperature system. (I think this is point where Tim “the tooltime” Taylor would do his ‘Hauwrrr, hauwrrr, hauwrrr..!’)

Alternitive: Magcharger + Welch Allyn 1160

An original Magcharger (good very bright flashlite used by the police etc) gives you 180 lumens. The Polarion PH 40 throws out 4000! lumens. Eat that mr. law enforcement!
